The contactless Smart Technology used by Salto allows operating of the escutcheons and readers without the need for physically touching them. Just by approaching the carrier a secured data interchange takes place and access is allowed or denied. Salto uses the LEGIC (legic.com) RFID Technology, which runs on the industry standard frequency of 13.56 MHz. The products are widely used in access control related applications such as multi-application company cards and large-scale leisure card projects. This multi-application possibility allows the salto products to integrate with a large number of 3rd party applications that also use Legic as ID technology provider.

The system includes both non-wired stand-alone units as well as on line systems.

The contactless Smart Technology is widely used on all kinds of projects and is especially effective when multi-application is required.

The Contactless Smart Card a far more technologically advanced ID carrier than the mag strip cards, changes completely the concept of "Master Cards". Any profile is possible, and can be changed at any time. This basically means that in "old mag stripe" terminology, any individual Master Card combination is possible.

Of course standard options are available:

	Multi door cards.
	Program cards and Spare Cards, in case a power failure makes normal check-in temporarily impossible.

New possibilities come within reach when combining the Contact Smart Card with Salto Virtual Net:

	The Smart Cards will build up 'on-card' audit trails, to track personnel or guest movements.
	Lock specific data like battery power status is registered on staff or guest Smart Cards.
	Lost or stolen master cards are deleted from the system by just visiting the locks with up-dated cards.
	No specific Smart Cards or staff members are required to carry out these tasks. A member of the cleaning staff carries out all the above features by just inserting their Smart Card in a lock to clean a room.
	Complete Access profile of each individual user can be updated at the up-date wall readers.
